This 15 year old female presented with an openbite of her front teeth. Through a combination of extraction of four permanent teeth in the back of her mouth and braces for 20 months the bite was closed, allowing for proper biting function of the front teeth and improved esthetics.
This 8 year old make presented with his permanent lower incisor being forced out of the gum tissue by the upper incisor upon closer. An interceptive phase of braces for 11 months was initiated to correct the problem. Failure to correct this problem at an early age would have most likely resulted in the loss of this lower permanent incisor.
This 39 year old female presented with an underlying skeletal imbalance (lower jaw too short). A combination of full braces and a surgical advancement of the lower jaw corrected the bite and now allows for better function and less strain on the Temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Total treatment time was 24 months.
This 11 year old female presented with excessive spacing and overbite. Full braces and elastics (rubber bands) were used to correct the problem over an 18 month period.
This 8 year old male suffered trauma to his two front baby teeth at an early age. Consequently, the two permanent upper front teeth were impacted in the bone. An interceptive phase of treatment (phase I) was prescribed to move the teeth out of the bone and into proper position. This patient later went on to have full braces at age 13 to correct the other orthodontic issues that were presented.
This 9 year old male presented with an extremely narrow upper jaw. This can be attributed to some development factors, but is often seen in patients with prolonged thumbsucking/pacifier habits or patients who are chronic "mouth breathers". Early intervention with the use of an upper jaw (palatal) expander is indicated to widen the jaw to allow for improved function and esthetics. This is what was done here for a period of 12 months. Failure to treat this type of skeletal imbalance can result in the need for surgical correction once a patient enters adulthood.
This 12 year old male presented with a severe underbite (lower teeth in front of upper teeth). In some cases, this is due to a skeletal imbalance and requires jaw surgery in addition to full braces to correct. In this particular case, braces and rubber bands alone were sufficient to correct the problem over a period of 27 months. Note: This patient suffered enamel "scarring" on his upper front teeth due to lack of proper oral hygiene throughout his treatment.
This 39 year old female who had worn braces as a teenager presented for retreatment as an adult. The Invisalign system was used to correct the problem. Through a series of 18 removable (invisible) trays, realignment of the teeth and bite was accomplished in less than 12 months. For more information on the Invisalign system, please got to the links section for a direct link to the Invisalign website.
This 13 year old female came to us with excessive upper jaw crowding, excessive overbite (vertical overlap of the front teeth) and excessive overjet (horizontal overlap of the front teeth). Through a combination of extraction of two upper permanent teeth, proper alignment and bite was established. Total time in braces was 23 months.
This 11 year old female presented with excessive crowding. Notice the overlap of the upper front teeth and the double row of teeth beginning to form on the upper right hand side. Four permanent teeth were removed in the back of the mouth to make room for aligning the front teeth. Full braces were placed for 19 months to correct the crowding once the teeth were removed.
This 13 year old patient came to us with a complaint of a "missing front tooth". Proper diagnosis revealed the tooth was actually impacted in the bone. A minnow tooth exposure procedure coupled with full braces for 20 months allowed for guided eruption of the tooth into proper position.
This 25 year old female required full braces along with surgery on both jaws. Notice the significant profile change. Total treatment time (including surgery) was 21 months.
